Prayer Chain 2010 Update

Some changes have occurred in our prayer chain recently.  Updated lists have gone out to those who participate in this important ministry that connects us as a body. Prayer is a powerful weapon and tool in our life.  People’s lives are changed through prayer.  People are healed through prayer.  People come to Christ through prayer.  It is necessary and it is a true mark of our lives as Christian Disciples.  As Paul writes in Romans, “Rejoice in hope, be patient in suffering, persevere in prayer.”

We have put into place some simple steps to follow so that our prayers might be lifted by as many people as possible.  We are asking all members of the church that all prayer requests be initiated through the office.  Issues of confidentiality and discretion will be taken into consideration.  The office will forward the prayer request through our team leaders.  Our team leaders will continue to share the information as we have in the past through the phone list.

Although you may not be a part of the phone prayer chain, you can be a part of this important ministry by praying for those who uplift us in prayer daily.  Also, if you are unable to be a part of the phone chain but wish to be connected, there is also an email that goes to others when prayer concerns are expressed.  You can simply call the office and ask to be a part of this email group.

“The prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective!”  James 5:16

Education Corner

Sunday School is taking a break (though NOT THE MERLE FRAZIER CLASS!) during the summer.  Sunday School will begin Sunday, September 5 (Labor Day Sunday) with a Sunday School Kick-Off.   Big and exciting happenings in the Children’s and Youth Departments (attendance awards, age-group changes, all kinds of fun stuff!), and new things in Adult Education!

Over the summer, if you have good ideas – please call or e-mail, no idea is too goofy. Monica

Changes will be happening with FROG and other Christian Education Programs also! Stay-tuned for the August Newsletter!  Christian Education is a vital part of CHUM, and we all need to work to make it stronger.  Thank you!

Children’s Street Fair
Saturday, June 26th is the first festival!  The theme this year is HOPE, and the focus is Mission Work.  June’s focus is Burundi.  We have balloons, games & prizes, free food, a DJ, face painting, maybe a mime, maybe a magic show.  All fun stuff!!!  All are welcome, but children preschool – sixth grade are the target audience.

Saturday, July 31st is the second festival! July’s focus is Haiti.  A couple of United Methodist missionaries (who just came back from Haiti) are going to present to the kids some fascinating news from Haiti.  Again:  balloons, games & prizes, free food, a DJ, a Puppet Show, face painting, and maybe the animal guy (maybe).

The times for the festivals:  11:00 a.m.  to 1:30 p.m.  Location:  5th Avenue between the CHUM and the College Hill Presbyterian Churches.  Invite all Children for this wonderful free Christian fellowship.
